Create your own special-purpose map to shade Washington counties You select!

Short "how-to": If you already know of some counties you'd like to display on a color-contrasted Washington map, fill out the form below. The result will be a gif file image which can be printed or saved to a file for later use.

Start by selecting a "template" State map:

Next, enter a title for your map:

You can select up to six different colors (shades) to represent six different groups of counties:

Select Group I's shading color:

Select Group II's shading color:

Select Group III's shading color:

Select Group IV's shading color:

Select Group V's shading color:

Select Group VI's shading color:

Enter a label for Group I:

Enter a label for Group II:

Enter a label for Group III:

Enter a label for Group IV:

Enter a label for Group V:

Enter a label for Group VI:

And, select the color you want for Text:

Before selecting counties, enter any text you wish to be used as "Notes":

Who Can Best Use This Map Utility ...

In interpreting and illustrating events taking place in some locations and not others, the use of shaded or "color-contrasted" maps can be useful. This webform allows you to choose up to six different groupings of counties - along with your title, choice of colors and labels. A computer program will then draw a Washington map (as a "gif" format file) with your groupings shown in the selected colors. The map can then either be printed or saved and used later. For printing purposes, a color printer is, of course, ideal!
